Introducing Our Skin Check System - Spot The Red

Spot The Red Our unique Spot The Red™ skin check system is incorporated into our basinless bathing product ‘Bedbath’ encouraging and empowering nursing staff of all levels to document areas of concern and to report to the nurse in charge immediately thus facilitating compliance to your reporting protocol. Spot The Red is a process to help reduce incidences of pressure ulcers and skin breakdown before it occurs. The outer packaging of Bedbath includes a reporting card that is filled in by the nurse or carer helping improve communication of observations between staff.

We ask that during bathing and continence care you examine the skin from head to toe for the presence of bruises, redness, rashes, abnormal skin temperature, pale areas and any pain or discomfort. Then simply circle the areas of concern on the anatomic graph and report immediately to the nurse in charge so your concern can be documented and a plan of care actioned accordingly.

Confident Care Products 'Bedbath' with skin check system
Basin bathing can lead to poor skin integrity and nosocomial infections; scummy basin water creates a "bacteria soup" leaving patients microbiologically dirtier after the bath. Senile itching (pruritus) is associated with strong soaps and "waterborne bacteria" has been linked to serious morbidity and mortality.

The purpose of a bath is to cleanse the skin, remove harmful bacteria, control odour, stimulate tissue and promote relaxation and comfort, while providing an opportunity for skin monitoring and / or assessment. The acid mantle of the skin is pH 4.5 - 5.5 which retards bacterial and fungal growth and provides for lubrication and skin hydration; cleansers with pH nearest to that of the skin protect the acid mantle. AHRQ "Guidelines for Skin Cleansing" recommends a "mild cleansing agent to minimise irritation and dryness of the skin..." and to use washcloths that "minimise force and friction applied to the skin."

Confident Care Products 'Bedbath'
A unique cleansing formula that has a pH closest to that of normal healthy skin. It nourishes and moisturises with Aloe and Vitamin E and uses ultra soft garment quality disposable washcloths to reduce drag and friction against sensitive skin which is less traumatic than rough, laundered washcloths.
So gentle and non-irritating it can be used on all areas of the body including the face.

Bedbath offers the benefits of:
Decreased risk of skin tears
Environmentally friendly (cloths biodegrade)
Cost to facilities decreased (reduction of linen & towel laundry)
Nurse/patient bed bathing time cut by 50%

Improved occupational health and safety - no water spillage or carrying of heavy basins of water
Proven improved patient skin integrity
